2026 School Nursing is my Superpower Nominee:
| Karen Gordon MSN, RN, CSN-NJ, East Windsor Regional School District, New Jersey |
It is an honor to nominate my wife, Karen Gordon for this recognition. With 16 years of dedicated service, she has moved beyond the traditional role of a school nurse to become an essential part of the educational community. To the students, she is a healer; to her peers, she is a mentor; and to the district, she is a champion for change. Managing the health needs of nearly 500 students is no small feat. Whether she is responding to a playground injury, managing a complex asthma flare-up, or soothing a frightened child, Karen possesses the ultimate superpower: unwavering composure. She remains the "calm in the storm," ensuring every child feels safe, heard, and cared for the moment they step into her office. Her expertise doesn't stop at the nurse’s office doors. Karen serves as a vital bridge for the nursing profession, acting as a mentor to new school nurses and a resource for nurses across her district and surrounding districts. Her 16 years of institutional knowledge make her an invaluable asset to the region’s public health infrastructure. Karen believes that healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Her work on the District Equity Committee ensures that all students, regardless of background, have equal access to the resources they need to succeed in the classroom. Additionally, she understands that a healthy school requires a happy staff. Through her work on the Leader In Me Lighthouse Team _ Culture Committee, she helps weave the social fabric of the school together with creativity and heart. From the "Souper Bowl" luncheon to "Blind Date with a Book" and "Spring Egg Hunts," she helps create the "magic" that makes the school a true community. Karen Gordon is the definition of a school nurse with superpowers. She leads with her head, heals with her hands, and supports with her heart.
