2026 School Nursing is my Superpower Nominee:
| Katelyn (Katie) O’Quinn, Splendora, TX |
As a mom, it’s never easy to let go and trust someone else with your child but when your child has Type 1 diabetes, that trust carries an entirely different weight. You’re not just trusting someone with their care, you’re trusting them with their life. From the very beginning, our school nurse made that transition into public school feel safe, supported, and smooth for both my son and me. She met every question, every moment of “micro-managing,” and every bit of my anxiety with patience, understanding, and zero judgment. She never once made me feel like I was “too much” instead, she reassured me, educated me, and partnered with me. Because of her, we’ve grown from constant check-ins and worry to a place where I rarely feel the need to check his numbers at all. That kind of trust is not given lightly it’s earned, and she has earned it fully. What makes her even more special is that her care doesn’t stop with one child. When another student at our school was newly diagnosed, she went out of her way to support that family as well ordering a Rufus bag and helping that child feel comfortable, seen, and cared for during such a life-changing time. She is more than a school nurse she is a steady, compassionate presence, an advocate, and a lifeline for families navigating something incredibly challenging. We are beyond grateful for her and the heart she pours into every child she cares for.
