School Nurse Superpower Nominees

An elementary school health office is often a whirlwind of activity. Yet, Emily serves as the calm at the center of every storm. In the last year, her school community faced a unique challenge with a significant increase in students diagnosed with T1D. Emily did not just manage these cases, she championed them! She has been a soft landing spot for parents who are navigating the new complexities of carb counting, insulin ratios, and CGMs. She fosters an environment of independence and safety which has allowed her students to spend less time managing their disease, and more time being a student. Her dedication, expertise, and unwavering empathy have turned an overwhelming year into a masterclass in school nursing. We are incredibly lucky to have her working with our students and are grateful for her "superpower" as a "part-time pancreas".
