2026 School Nursing is my Superpower Nominee:
| Priscilla Manella, Framingham, Massachusetts |
Priscilla Manzella sounds like a superhero not because of a cape, but because of the sheer scope and impact of what she handles every single day. At Fuller Middle School, supporting 600+ students isn’t just about treating the occasional scraped knee. It means being responsible for a complex, constantly changing health environment—students with chronic conditions like diabetes, those with special needs, and managing at least 16 daily oral medication administrations with precision and care. That level of responsibility requires not just medical knowledge, but constant vigilance, organization, and empathy. What elevates her even further is her mastery of the rules, regulations, and laws surrounding school nursing. That’s the behind-the-scenes work most people never see—but it’s critical. Compliance isn’t optional; it protects students, families, and the entire school system. Being fluent in that landscape while still being accessible and compassionate to students is no small feat. Then there’s her leadership. Managing the summer program means her impact extends beyond the traditional school year, ensuring continuity of care and safety. And as a mentor, she’s multiplying her influence—guiding and supporting fellow nurses, sharing knowledge, and strengthening the entire healthcare network within the schools. Put it all together, and “superhero” fits. Not because of one big moment, but because of consistent, high-stakes, behind-the-scenes dedication that keeps hundreds of students safe, supported, and ready to learn every day.
